Local star romps to Seniors Championship win

Ian Quirk receives the G.E. Northam trophy from county President, Tony Gregory

LYMM Golf Club were again superb hosts for a Cheshire ‘major’ providing a course in pristine condition and greens given great compliments by all of the players.
The usual impeccable clubhouse service, excellent help by club officials and friendly members backed by some excellent weather made this a competition to remember for some Cheshire legends.
It was close at the end of the first round with Lymm’s Ian Quirk and previous competition winner David Nelson (Northenden) level on 72 closely followed by Neil Andrew, Stephen Hughes, Paul Knight and Ian Gemmell all 73.
But it was one-way traffic in round two on the second day with Ian Quirk. using his local knowledge and skill, posting a superb 67 for a winning total of 138, seven clear of Guy Hindle and David Nelson, seeing him collect the winner’s trophy from Cheshire President Tony Gregory.
There were also age group prizes handed out with Guy Hindle winning the 55-59 range in both gross and net categories with 145 and 143, the 60-64 winner was Ian Quirk in both with 134 and 138.
Finally the 65 and over category was led in by David Nelson with 141 and 145.
