It's been 26 years since Royal Liverpool hosted the Championship and held the very first Amateur Championship in 1885. The club has been one of the championship's most frequent venues, hosting it on 18 previous occasions, including 1885, 1887, 1890, 1894, 1898, 1902, 1906, 1910, 1921, 1927, 1933, 1939, 1953, 1962, 1969, 1975, 1995 and 2000.
The Amateur Championship is one of the most prestigious amateur events in world golf. Past champions include José María Olazábal, Sergio García and Matteo Manassero. Winning it can be career-defining.
The champion traditionally receives invitations to major championships, including:
The Open Championship
Masters Tournament
The U.S. Amateur and other elite amateur events.
Monday–Tuesday
36 holes of stroke-play qualifying.
One round at Royal Liverpool and one at West Lancashire.
Wednesday–Friday
Knockout match-play rounds at Royal Liverpool.
Saturday
36-hole final contested over morning and afternoon rounds.
