Cheshire Union of Golf Clubs
The news that the first people have received the Covid-19 vaccine has given everyone hope that we are maybe at the beginning of the end of this unprecedented event in our lives.
On the 22nd. of November the Union celebrated its actual centenary as it was 100 years ago on that date that 36 Golf Clubs gave notice of a willingness to join such a union. During the meeting the intention to stage a County Championship the following year was stated and as the Royal Liverpool Club was to hold the Amateur Championship in 1921, it was decided that the County Championship should be held at Delamere Forest GC.
Our planned celebrations for 2020 had to be postponed for reasons about which everyone is aware, but as our Centenary Year technically started in November, we have the opportunity to stage the various events during 2021 and this we intend to do if at all possible. This will include our Centenary County Championship and it is entirely fitting that the venue should be Delamere Forest GC, one hundred years on from the first Championship.
We are now all back playing golf, subject to the weather, and hopefully we will have no more cessations. Nevertheless we are not out of the woods yet and we must all continue to observe whatever regulations are imposed on us, and we should do this with good grace, thankful that we are at least alive to enjoy our beloved game.
I hope you are as impressed with our new website as I am and that you will continue to visit it over the months to read about the Union’s activities. In particular, I trust that you will peruse the fixtures and that you will be able to join us, either as a player or as a spectator; whichever it is you will be warmly welcomed.
