Dave Sanders is a true legend at Reddish Vale Golf Club for the unstinting work he has put in to various roles at his beloved club and other golfing organisations over the years.

He is enjoying his new role as President of Reddish Vale and proudly said: “The club is in the best financial position it has been in for many years and we are welcoming new members and visitors constantly.

“Just about all the greens equipment has been replaced in the last 18 months along with some extra machinery purchases that will improve the course even more.

“The final piece of the jigsaw is now in place with our new catering arrangements. Colin and Emma have raised the bar in the kitchen, much to the delight of the members and visitors.”

Dave also has a second reason for personal golfing pride as his nephew Billy Sanders is the Junior Captain at Sale GC. Dave believes that Billy could set a club, county and national record for being the tallest-ever  junior Captain at his height of six feet seven and a half inches!

Dave commented: “I am only five feet nine inches and my dad was six feet two inches and his dad was even taller.

“I must take after my mother’s side of the family!”

Billy who is 18 and attends Ashton-on-Mersey High School outlined his pathway into golf and his plans for the coming year.

“I joined Sale a couple of years ago because I have a few friends who play there and previously had played at Ashton-on-Mersey GC and at a driving range with my brother and Dad.

“My first handicap at sale was 31.1 and it has dropped to 17.5 and my aim this year is to get it down to 12.

“During the lockdown I played a lot of golf at different courses and the hardest one for me was Reddish Vale.

“My aim this year is to get some younger players into our junior section, get them playing competitions and making progress for their future in golf.

“I would like to thank Mike Hobson, the Sale junior organiser, who has had some amazing achievements over the last two years and I am delighted that he has given me the opportunity to lead the junior section which I hope we can continue to improve and achieve many great things..
