Astbury Centenary Year of to a flier

Opening of the new pro’s shop by Captain and Lady Captain watched by President Steve Whalley and Pro Daniel Bills, Captain and Lady Captain drive in

Astbury Golf Club is looking forward with great anticipation to celebrating their Centenary Year in 2022.

They had a great attendance of members and guests to witness and enjoy the unofficial start to the Captains’ year of office with their Drive-in.

If the Drive-in is anything to go by Captain Dr Mike Sumner and Lady Captain Linda Stevens will do the club proud.

They hosted an excellent buffet lunch and a raffle then dressed to impress with an imaginative attempt at the 1922 look then driving off with ancient clubs from that era.

Despite first tee nerves both Captains produced commendable yardages with the Captain managing 130 yards and the Lady Captain a commendable 56 yards.

The reality is maybe a loss of hip rotation but fortunately the club’s new PGA professional Daniel Bills was nearby and happy to offer treatment – as a medical man the Captain is aware that in his case the swing condition could be terminal!.

The other highlight of the day was the official welcome to the club of Daniel with the Captain and Lady Captain and President Steve Whalley able to offer their best wishes before cutting the ribbon and inviting all to pop into the new and greatly improved shop.
