The British Left handed Golfers Association provides an opportunity to become not just the UK Champion Left Handed Golfer but also the right of automatic entry to the biennial World Left Handed Championship and in 2022 it will be led with great enthusiasm and expectation by Styal Golf Club stalwart Alan Lines as the BLHGA Captain in their 63rd year.

Alan’s appointment has been delayed for two years by Covid restrictions but now it is all set up for an exciting 2022.

Alan, who has been a member for 12 years said: “I would like to emphasise what a really eclectic, friendly group the BLHGA are.

“Every event is a mix of male and lady left handed members and even right handed guests !!!

“They are usually 27 holes with a 9 hole randomly paired game in the morning, a soup / sandwich lunch then a 18 hole Singles Stableford in the afternoon followed by a two course meal and prize-giving for each sector to finish the day.

“They are really good, well organised days run by a totally voluntary, elected by members’ committee and are always appreciated by golfers who like a good competition in good company.

“Over the years the Association has records of over 1750 golfers who have been members and we currently have 152 names on the books who pay an annual subscription of £15.

“During the 1960’s most of the competitions were staged in the London area led by Ben Warris (remember Jewell and Warris?) but the Association has now extended across the UK and the world with Lefties World Championship in 2022 being staged in Paris and the national Championships will be held in June at The Cotswolds Hotel and Spa

“By its very nature of being British every game won't be ‘on your doorstep’ but the breadth and variety of courses played make a drive of an hour or two well worthwhile.

“Unusually, the  BLHGA Captain for both 2022 , myself and then 2023, David Marriott, both come from Styal Golf Club in Cheshire.

“We are close friends and thrilled to be chosen by the membership, “This will give an extra degree of continuity as it will be easy for us to work together to further the progress made by the BLHGA and welcoming new members.

“I would be delighted to take enquiries from anybody who would like to know more about the 'Lefties' and the email address is

“The main website '' has lots of information  and shows the 2022 fixture schedule as well as membership application form.

“Finally remember –‘Everyone is born Right Handed.

Only the most gifted overcome it!!”
