Carol Butler has been a devoted and long-serving member of her beloved club Mellor & Townscliffe for 40 years and now she is looking forward to the new role she has taken at the club as their first-ever manager.
Carol said: “This year, I will have been a member of Mellor & Townscliffe for 40 years (scary) and I’ve never been employed in the golfing industry before.
“I was Lady Captain in 2004 and for the past six years have served on the Club’s Council and for the last 30 months as Chair.
“My business life has largely been in Business and Corporate Banking with Lloyds Bank, leading large teams and implementing change initiatives. I took early retirement in 2019 from my role as Customer Service Director.
“From a golfing perspective, at my lowest, I was a six handicapper for many years, creeping up over the last 20 years to a comfortable 9/10, but with a frozen shoulder for two years and WHS, I now languish around 14, so my aim is to split the difference and get back to around 10!
“I love Mellor & Townscliffe - it’s in my blood. I went to primary school on the hill opposite and I am delighted to now be able to work for the club.
“In fact I worked for the club steward many years ago, serving food, then progressed to working behind the bar when I was old enough, which is when I met my now husband, Paul.
“My father has been a member since I was a child (he’s now a life member) and he was Chairman of Greens for over 30 years in three bouts.
“My mum plays at Mellor where she is mad keen and at one stage, our daughter played as a junior. So you can see, it really is in my blood!
“Regarding the role as manager - My thoughts; it’s very early days - I’m literally four weeks in, we’re in lockdown and it’s a challenging time for us all.
