Vale Royal Abbey was again a fantastic venue for the County Mixed Foursomes Championships where clubs in the county can enter one pair to represent them.
Covid problems affecting club’s competitions this season saw the entry reduced to 26 clubs but all of the pairs enjoyed superb weather and a course in incredible condition with their historic clubhouse providing the usual excellent and friendly service for players and the CUGC organisers.
On the course it was another thrilling competition and Macclesfield Captain Chris Massey and Lady Captain Greeba Jones proved to be a great team as they posted the winning score of 37 points to finish two clear of Romiley Captain Colin Davies and Lady Captain Jackie Purcer.
This made history for the dynamic Macclesfield duo with their club’s first success in the popular county competition.
A card play off on 33 points saw home Captains Mark Patton and Angie Scragg finish in third place ahead of Cheshire and England senior Ladies star Caroline Berry and Andrew Leadbetter (Bromborough).
Stamford GC enjoyed their first venture into the final with their father and daughter team of Steve and Freya Moores finishing with a creditable 32 points.
