Cheshire’s men kicked off their Daily Telegraph Northern Counties league campaign in impressive style with a 10.5-7.5 win over Lancashire at Wallasey Golf Club.
Wallasey were again impressive hosts for a top county fixture providing a superb course in immaculate condition, great hospitality and magnificent weather.
It certainly inspired the hosts as they won the first two foursomes by 6/4 with Lytham Trophy champion Josh McMahon and Ben Chamberlain and James Newton and Jack Brooks getting them off to a flying start.
Lancashire hit back with wins for Ian Kenwright and Reece Cranfield over Mike Harrington and Steve Capper and Josh Fallows and Greg Holmes by 2/1 over Josh Sims and Ben Hallam.
A half for Dom Barnes and Chris Harrison and a 3/2 win for Jon Beesley and Chris Chilton saw Cheshire ahead by a point at the lunch break.
Cheshire then took early control in the singles with wins from Josh McMahon 3/2 and Ben Chamberlain 3/1 with halves from James Newton and Steve Capper.
Lancashire kept their hopes alive with wins from John Carroll over Mike Harrington and Josh Fallows over Josh Sims but Cheshire had Jack Brooks, Dom Barnes, Ben Hallam and Chris Chilton posting wins with Lancashire’s consolation points coming from Calum Metcalfe over Chris Harrison and Jamie Van Wyk over Jon Beesley as Cheshire can now look forward to the other matches in the league with great anticipation.
