Macclesfield Golf Club were great hosts, providing a challenging course with great views across several counties, for the match between Cheshire Under 16 & Under 14 Boys against their Derbyshire counterparts.
The morning 10-hole foursomes saw the visitors gain a 3-1 lead that proved to vital to the final result with Cheshire’s point secured by Oliver Pierce (Didsbury) and Alex Lamb (Marple).
It was all to play for in the eight singles matches and Derbyshire extended their lead with a win and a half in the opening two games.
But Cheshire showed their fighting spirit as wins for Sam Hall (Styal) and Bradley Snape (Romiley) got them back in contention backed by a half for Ben Currie (Withington).
Derbyshire regained their two-point lead leaving the outcome on the final two matches and Oliver Johnson (Delamere Forest) reduced the arrears and Cameron Walker (Caldy) was one up going into final hole but was unable to prevent Derbyshire getting a half to secure victory by 6.5 to 5.5.
The other two halved matches had also seen Cheshire go into the final hole one up but were unable to convert the advantage and prevent Derbyshire turning the tables in a great contest.
