Former Cheshire Presidents, the current Cheshire board members and special guests were able to enjoy a great day at the historic Royal Liverpool Golf Club – the home club for Cheshire President Chris Moore.
There was great hospitality in the clubhouse and at the halfway house as the players had a hard battle with the splendid links course on a very windy day which made scoring in the singles Stableford quite difficult.
At one stage it looked like bragging rights for who lost the most balls with home professional John Heggarty setting an early mark with five before being overtaken by Mike Field with seven.
But as always some players beat the odds and the top player was Steve Dunn from county sponsors Robinsons Brewery.
He was delighted to receive a vintage Roberto de Vincenzo wine from the President
Steve, a member at Withington Golf Club, posted 32 points to win the guest section, Leading the Cheshire contingent in the battle to win the President’s Putter was home player John O’Neill, a former county President with 31 points.
It was his third win in the competition and he ended the three-year winning streak of Ringway’s Ron Harrison.
County secretary Peter Whitehead was also in the prizes and he achieved the only two of the day on the very tricky par three 13th hole.
There was an excellent meal after golf to aid the recovery from a good day of golf and the President gave due thanks to all of the people who do so much to keep county and club golf at a high level before handing out the prizes to the top players.
