The competition was created following the unification of the Cheshire Union of Golf Clubs and the Cheshire County Ladies Golf Association in September 2024, which resulted in the formation of Cheshire Golf Limited.
To celebrate this significant moment in Cheshire golf, the new competition was established to bring ladies and gentlemen together in a mixed-team foursomes knockout format – a format that is completely new to Cheshire Golf.
Each team consists of 10 players, with ladies and gentlemen competing together throughout the competition.
Cheshire County President Marjorie Griffiths, who proposed the competition as a way of celebrating the successful unification, was present at Finals Day to present the inaugural Unity Trophy to the winning Macclesfield team. A huge thank you to event organiser Graham Sayers and Vice President Stewart Neil for his support on the day.
Fourteen teams from across the county battled their way through the season, with Bramall Park, Chester, Macclesfield and Stamford earning their places at Finals Day at a pristine Chester Golf Club.
The morning semi-finals produced two closely fought contests.
Bramall Park came through against the home side Chester, securing a 3 - 2 victory to book their place in the afternoon final.
Macclesfield also recorded a 3 - 2 win, overcoming Stamford in another closely contested semi-final and setting up a final against Bramall Park.
The afternoon final proved to be another competitive encounter, but it was Macclesfield Golf Club who held their nerve to claim a second successive 3 - 2 victory and become the first names on the Unity Trophy.
It was a fitting conclusion to the inaugural competition, which brought clubs from across Cheshire together to celebrate the creation of Cheshire Golf Limited and the unification of men's and women's golf within the county.
Congratulations to Macclesfield Golf Club, the inaugural Unity Trophy Mixed Foursomes champions.
