Countdown to 100th Men's County Championship

The much anticipated 100th Men's County Championship begins on Thursday 25th June at Delamere Forest GC.
Delamere hosted the inaugural championship back in 1921 when Wilmslow's Geoffrey Tweedale beat Israel Sidebottom in the final. The format of the championship changed to 72-hole strokeplay in 1962. This will be the 12th time the championship has been contested over the delightful Delamere course which is always in excellent condition.
The most recent renewal of the County Championship at Delamere, in 2021, saw host club member James Ashfield record an astonishing total of 263, comfortably the lowest total ever recorded in this championship.
As expected, we have a full field including defending champion Sam Johnson of Astbury GC

Play commences at 8am on Thursday. After 36 holes there is a cut for the top 40 players and ties, with the final 36 played on Saturday 27th June. Who will have the honour to be the 100th Men's County Champion?

Below is a YouTube video kindly created by our good friend David Lawton charting the first 10 years of the County Championship with the aid of some very clever AI. Thank you David
